The Story
Adventure can be yours if you’re willing to create it for yourself. Looking for places to explore, topics to learn, and new ideas to discover, you can ensure fun, discovery and play are constants in your life. It is possible to give yourself this gift over and over, to turn your life into something incredible and amazing.
This is the belief I tested during the summer of 2017. I quit my job, started my own business, and took off to explore the unknown. What I discovered was a deep love affair with our planet.
Leaving June 27, 2017 from San Diego, CA, my boyfriend and I would spend the next sixty days on the road. Through a series of day-trips, we would explore, camp and hike through nine states and twelve of America’s National Parks while running a business on the road. To say the trip changed my life would be an understatement. It allowed me the opportunity to decompress from the stressful years I spent working in fashion in New York City. I reconnected with myself and what I love most about being alive: getting to explore, learn & laugh in beautiful environments with people I love.
When thinking of the trip, I am reminded of a sketch I saw at a campground host station in Glacier National Park, MT of two hikers at the top of a mountain with this simple phrase: “Perspective, Get Some.”
This is my story in hopes that it inspires you to create yours.
With Love,
Kayla Clements
The Video
To share compelling stories, high-quality photographs and life-changing lessons learned from the road, I have written and designed a coffee table book on the experience. My book, Daytripper: 60 Days on the Road Exploring America’s National Parks, is near launch. Working on designing this book has been amazing getting to relive every precious, magical, and hilarious moment from camping, hiking & working on the road. I can’t wait to share it with you and with the world.
Printed locally in the United States in Los Angeles, the 7.5" x 9.5" book will be 150+ full-color pages of photographs and stories from the road. The soft-touch paperback cover will feature the book title printed in silver foil. The interior pages will be printed on recycled paper and a portion of every book sale will go back to supporting the parks.
The Impact
I am humbled to be a small part of the #vanlife movement. Join me as part of the community that seeks the beauty out of the mundane, the good out of the chaos, and a simpler way of living.
Help Protect Our Parks – Feel good about your contribution!
I am excited to launch this book as a community endeavor. This book isn’t just about me; it’s about all of us. The public lands are a collective gift that as humans on planet Earth, we will pass on to the generations to come. Protection of these sacred lands is not guaranteed. Assist me to help ensure their survival. On top of being printed on recycled paper and printed locally in the U.S., a portion of every book sale will go back to supporting the protection of our National Parks.
